Manufacturing and Assembly
Each RK1 is cut on our solar powered large format CNC machine, then finish sanded by hand and fully assembled before disassembly and packaging. The RK1 ships flat packed so assembly and any desired additional wood finishing will need to be performed once the kit arrives. If you've ever build a Scandinavian book shelf you're well prepared.
Tools required:
- Screw driver or electric screw gun
- Two adjustable wrenches or wrench/socket set
- Knife or razor blade
- Hammer
- Foam pad (yoga mat)
- Spray adhesive
- Sandpaper
- Wood glue (for permanent assembly, recommended)
- Clamps (or heavy things)
Assembly hardware and fasteners are included with a few spares just in case.
Ergonomics
The RaceKit RK1 has been designed to allow adjustments to the seat, steering wheel platform and pedal platform. This ensures you can get the perfect position for your selected sim hardware. Adjustments take no time at all with simple hand tools.
Strength
The plywood structure of the RaceKit RK1 can withstand high end simulator hardware, including Direct Drive wheels and Load Cell pedals. Mounting holes can be drilled as necessary for your wheel and pedal configuration and preferences. We are unable to test all possible configurations, please reach out if you have any compatibility concerns.
Materials
All rigs are built using sturdy furniture grade sanded plywood. The species of plywood is subject to constantly changing availability. The 1/4" plywood seat back may not always be the same exact type of wood depending on availability.
Every kit will be unique, and highlighting or hiding flaws in the plywood as well as any "happy little accidents" give each piece its own unique characteristics and charm.
Plywood chips and splits if you look at it wrong but fear not, the overall structure will remain strong and durable for years. A coating of stain or paint coupled with wood glue during assembly will further increase the durability and longevity of your RK1.
Please Note: Our lead times vary but please expect at least a 2-4 week wait as each kit is made to order. Thank you for your patience!
